How to Remove Coffee Stains from Carpets

Our love for coffee is the same intensity as how we dislike coffee spills, especially when it is on the carpet! Coffee stains sometimes leave a sticky stain and become stubborn when not acted on immediately.

Timing is essential, but even on old coffee stains, there is still hope to save them if you know the tips and techniques for removing them.

Blot the stain immediately.

The best chance to remove the stain is to act on it immediately. Grab a white cloth and pat on the spilled area. When the excess coffee is removed, it is time to blot the coffee stain on the carpet. Use another white cloth and blot the stain from moving outside to the middle of the stain, this helps you prevent spreading the stain.

Make sure not to rub the carpet. This could damage the fabric and result in liquids getting trapped in its fibers. When you have blotted most of the coffee stain, you can pour a little cold water over the area to dilute the stain and make efforts to blot it again until the stain is no longer dark.

Apply a carpet cleaning solution.

Only use a cleaning solution that is designed for carpets, using anything else may be stubborn to rinse and cause more damage to the fiber. However, if you cannot find a carpet stain remover, you can create one with the things you have at home. Make a mixture of one tablespoon of liquid dish soap, one tablespoon of white vinegar, and two cups of water.

Use a clean cloth to apply the solution over the stained area. Do the outside-to-middle motion again. Remember not to rub the carpet.

Rinse the stained area with cold water.

Use cold water to rinse the area. Do the rinsing several times to remove and blot up the remaining stain. Let the carpet dry on its own, do not throw them inside the dryer as it will damage the fibers.

Will Baking Soda Help Remove Coffee Stains/

Aside from the needed carpet cleaner, white vinegar, and dish soap, baking soda is part of the essential list. Baking soda is a helpful ingredient to lift stains off. You can sprinkle baking soda over the coffee stain and let it sit until the carpet is dry. Do not forget to vacuum your carpet to remove the remaining baking soda.

Is Coffee Stain Permanent?

It is not. Unless, you have disregarded the stain entirely for too long and exposed it to heat, making it dry and seep into the carpet further. If you have pre-treated the coffee stain yet is still stubborn, it is time to get help.

Still stubborn? Time to Get Help

These do-it-yourself methods in removing coffee stains from carpets may be sufficient. However, removing stubborn coffee stains may take much more effort and time. You will need help from a professional carpet cleaner; you can even ask the dry cleaning service in LES from your neighborhood if they offer such services.
